Empowering African Coaches: Navigating the Super Eagles’ Coaching Conundrum

As the Servant at African Coaches Connect (ACC), I, Eldred Sunju-Abbey, am humbled and honored to be a panelist at the 5th Edition of the Stephen Keshi Annual Memorial Lecture. This year’s theme resonates deeply with ACC’s mission and core values, and I’m excited to share ACC’s and my perspective on empowering local coaches and promoting African football talent.

I must categorically mention and appreciate my big brother Mr. Austin Popo, who stay tireless on all front churning impactful needful and particularly organizing this event. His dedication and hard work have brought together a diverse group of experts and stakeholders to discuss the future of Nigerian / African football.

I’m also honored to be in the same bracket as these esteemed eggheads and to speak in the same breath at the mention of the legendary and iconic Stephen Keshi (Big Boss). It’s a privilege to share the stage with:

Our guest speaker, Ambassador Fanny Amun (MON), is a renowned football administrator and former General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). He led the Nigeria U17 team to a historic World Cup victory in 1993, a testament to his exceptional leadership and coaching prowess. His wealth of experience and insight into African football will undoubtedly provide valuable perspectives on the topic.

Ejiro Omonode, Co-founder of Mastersports International, a seasoned sports consultant with expertise in football development and management.

Peter Nieketien, Technical Director and FA Chairman of Ajeromi Ifelodun Sports Council, a veteran coach and football administrator with a passion for grassroots development.

Dr. Louis Ogbeifun, Chairman of the Stephen Keshi Foundation, a respected sports physician and advocate for sports development in Africa

During the lecture, I will highlight the successes of African coaches like Stephen Keshi, who have made significant contributions to the sport, and emphasize the importance of empowering local talent. ACC aims to:

1. Promote African coaches’ development and recognition
2. Foster collaboration between local and foreign coaching talents
3. Contribute to the growth of African football
4. Honor Stephen Keshi’s legacy and continue his impact on Nigerian football coaching

By working together, we can navigate the Super Eagles’ coaching conundrum and create a brighter future for Nigerian / African football. Join us on Friday, October 11, 2024, at the Media Center, Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Benin, at 11.00 AM.
